Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.
— Søren Kierkegaard
Hello and welcome, if you’re new.
It’s been a while since I last wrote here. Long enough that some of you who used to drop by every week might have wondered if I was coming back at all. I am. With a slightly different look, a new rhythm, and a clearer sense of what I’m doing.
This post is the warm-up: a quick note about where I’ve been, what’s changed, and what to expect from now on.
Where I’ve been
Life has been a rollercoaster.
After losing my husband in 2021, everything came tumbling down, the plans, the security, the life we’d built together. There’s a lot I’ll share over time.
I moved to a new area in Kent and was honestly so worried I’d hate it, and that the children wouldn’t forgive me. But we’ve made our home as a family of three, with their two step-sisters in Scotland visiting when they can and us visiting them when we can. Scotland adventures and family stories will all become part of this blog over time.
My step-daughter has had a wonderful baby boy. She also set up a coffee shop, sold it, and has now bought a café, which she’s renovated into something stunning.
My son is engaged to Gemma, an amazing step-dad to her son Ruben, with a baby of their own due this month. So Nanny is a name I go by now.
I also decided to give myself some time to heal and part of that was opening up to dating again. Well, I’ve been with Paul since January 2024, and I could never have imagined I’d be living with someone I love this much.
I’ll expand on all of this as the blog finds its new rhythm.
What’s changed
You’ll have noticed the new look. The cream and black, the italic Jones at the heart of the logo, the gentler typography. I’ve been working on it for a while, and I’m so pleased with how it sits.
I’ve missed my blog and speaking to others about life and travels so I’ve spent time redesigning My Jones Life. I hope you like it.
I’m working to be informative, supportive, and to help others navigate life. So if your passion is travel, being outside, exploring the world and looking after yourself along the way, then join the journey.
The aesthetic has a name: modern country living. That’s the thread I want to pull through everything from now on, the country at heart, but without pretending I live in a thatched cottage. We don’t. We live in a new build in Kent, with a plan to make our small garden a sanctuary for us and make our home the hub of our family, where they can come at any time and feel loved and safe.
The blog itself is organised around four threads, you’ll find them at the top of the blog page:
Travel – exploring, weekend escapes, adventures across the UK and beyond. Inside Travel you’ll find a region for Kent (my home county, where most of my walks and days out start), plus growing sections for Sussex, Wales and further afield.
Family – home, family life, the seasons of the year, our garden, and the journey we make together.
Food – family recipes, meals out and exploring other cultures’ traditional food.
Reflections – thoughts, wellbeing, walking, and looking after yourself along the way.
What’s coming
Two things, both starting in May.
Weekly blog posts. Every Sunday. Sometimes a Kent day out, sometimes a project from the house, sometimes a small reflection. It’s exciting to see what’s on the horizon…days out, holidays, home and garden renovation plans, oh, and a grandbaby.
A monthly letter, a newsletter that lands on the first Sunday of every month, starting 7 June 2026. Designed to inspire you and support you through your life journey. Inside, you’ll find five places worth visiting, somewhere further afield, what I’ve been loving and more. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can sign up here. I’d love to have you.
Thank you
If you’re someone who’s read here for years, who’s emailed me, who’s followed along on Instagram or Pinterest, thank you for sticking around. I don’t take it lightly. Thank you for being part of the journey, and for being part of My Jones Life.
If you’re someone new, welcome. Have an explore. The blog has lots of posts in it from across the years; the four categories above are the easiest way in.
I’m so glad to be back here, journalling my life again.
