Your health

There is nothing better than walking into the sunset 🧡 Today has been a day of sitting and working at my laptop. So this evening the need to get outside not only for my physical health but my mental health was an absolute must. And the bonus of the husband, one son + fish and chips made it perfect.

Keeping busy

It’s been a busy work day but coming back to walk along this beautiful beach makes it worth it.

I have clocked up 550 miles in the last 24 hours and 300 more on the way tomorrow, but it has been worth it. Over the next year I will be making a few of these trips for a specific project all working to improve the health and social care sector in relation to medicines. Working to make positive effective change, going to be a challenging but rewarding project.

And this walk is everything after a long day 🧡

Road Trip

Last night we decided to wake up early and go on a road trip for the day to Lulworth Cove in Dorset.

It has been on my list for a long time and I can honestly say I wish we had visited sooner. It’s truly beautiful, a cute British gem by the sea and today it has felt like we were somewhere abroad.

We left in the early hours of the morning to arrive early for parking. We were stuck in traffic for a while on the motorway but when we arrived there was still lots of parking. You are able to pay for parking by cash or card and there were lots of machines to use. There was also a steady flow of cars coming and going so I would say parking should be ok throughout the day.

With a bonus that you can also walk to Durdle Door the natural limestone arch a little further alone the Jurassic Coastline, approximately 1 mile.

We will be going back to explore further again soon.

Desk Job

Working at a desk all day was never what I planned or wanted to do. I have always been a sports lover, keen to explore and loved being outside. But reality is my day job means being inside working at a desk or attending meetings sometimes in a room with no windows. So when my work day is over like today I had only clocked up a less than 1000 steps on my Fitbit so I needed to get my body moving and give my muscles some exercise. No only has the #Walk1000Miles challenge made me challenge myself it has helped with my fitness, my mental health and my overall wellbeing. So this evening there was a little light rain as I left the house which actually was quite refreshing and by the time I was back home my Fitbit was showing over 10,000 steps. 🙌🏼

729 Days

Entering this week with as much positivity as possible. I thank those who over the past 729 days have shared their stories with me and who have taken the time to listen to mine. As my journey continues I aim to provide support to others by challenging myself to climb Kilimanjaro and raising money for Child Bereavement UK. Making a positive difference to others is something I can work to achieve. If you are able to donate please check out my virgin money giving page every penny will go towards helping bereaved families.

Smile

Been working hard to get this smile back.

So I’m guilty of it, posting Instagram pictures showing what I want everyone to see: a happy me.

My world is a constant rollercoaster of emotions, working most of the week and doing the family chores the rest of the week.

My life is in no way perfect and although pictures of me may often be smiling and happy, this hasn’t been the norm.

I have worked hard to work though my emotions, what I have felt as failures and not being enough.

However if you have read my words over the past couple of years you will know that it hasn’t always been easy. Take a moment to read the words below an image as many of them tell great stories. Xx

The Challenge Ahead

So it’s beginning to sink in that I have taken on this mammoth challenge to climb Kilimanjaro. The biggest adventures I have ever taken on has been with my family. And for Kilimanjaro whilst I will have a fabulous team I am going to be without my family. And I can tell you now I am going to miss them terribly.

However I am very excited.

Today we took a trip to Go Outdoors and what wonderful staff they had so willing to help and willing to share their knowledge and to let me try things. It will be the first trip of many to outdoor shops, looking to ensure I have the most suitable kit at my fingertips whilst undertaking the challenge.

This picture was when we went on a Go Below adventure in Wales.

Fields of yellow

The fields of yellow are beautiful but not my friend.

I suffer with hay fever and this is what the first trigger tends to be. I use a over the counter nasal spray, make sure I use sunglasses to protect my eyes and use Vaseline around my nostrils and antihistamine tablets when it’s really bad.

So whilst I love the spring it brings unwanted health implications, for which I have learnt to manage.

This has made me think about making sure that on my trek up Kilimanjaro I have what I need to keep me healthy. There is a lot to consider altitude sickness, blisters, acute mountain sickness, travel vaccinations….so making sure I am prepared and understand what I may need and need to do before is vital.
