It’s not till it happens to us that we deal with situations that are life limiting or life changing.

So sometimes we really do have to try and understand being in someone else’s shoes to help, support and have some understanding of life for them.

For a while now I have been working with Wild with Wheels looking at providing accessible walks for people with a range of physical, mental and neuro diverse needs.

The simple act of walking, which some people, unfortunately are unable to complete, means they are limited to where they can go and what they can do. I am grateful to have this opportunity to help people with these accessibility issues to get out and enjoy nature.

Over the next two months over eight walks, I’m going to be sharing my time with people who would like to join me in getting outside. Every walk will have been pre-assessed to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all participants. From visiting Dover Castle and meeting the choughs to Solleys Ice Cream Parlour being out in the countryside and Pegwell Bay a real treat by the sea.

All the current walks are in the Sandwich, Deal and Dover Area with Gini the lead at Wild with Wheels also offering walks in these localities and Folkestone. As the work and team expands with Gini’s guidance there will be more happening across Kent but it will take time. We will be lucky to have Gini along on several occasions during the eight weeks I am currently leading.

If you’re interested in coming along to one of the walks, then please book by:

Mount Ephraim Gardens

Mount Ephraim House & Gardens are privately owned and lie between Canterbury and Faversham in Kent. Entry prices are reasonable with an excellent value annual option.

My Mum and I visited the gardens on Friday 26th June as the Covid19 pandemic social distancing rules aloud us. We arrived in the car park in our separate cars and walked to purchase our tickets at the entrance gate building. With excellent procedures in place including hand sanitizer, contactless payments and a glass screen. We were informed that the tea room was offering a takeaway service if we wished to use it – we all know that I will end up getting something yummy from the tea room.

We were provided with a map and asked to follow the route one way to ensure that social distancing could be easily facilitated.

There is a stunning Japanese rock garden & water garden, arboretum, Miz Maze and a beautiful walled garden near the tea room. You can take as much time as you wish exploring the many parts of the gardens then a stop off at the tea room for refreshments.

Picnics are welcome at the gardens, a great reason to buy an annual pass – remember to always take your rubbish home with you.

Remember now more than ever our local attractions will need support as tourist numbers will be much lower than normal. Why not plan your visit now?

It’s Sunday evening again

‘Hidden in plain sight’.

So it’s the end of another weekend and it’s nearly time to go back to the work week grind. So many of us just getting on with our daily jobs with not a thought of how what we do impacts others. Tomorrow take a moment to think how you make a difference to someone’s life, from helping someone get something that they cannot reach to phoning someone to book an appointment. These things may seem simple and automatic but they do make a difference to someone’s life.

Tankerton Slopes

This week it was the chance for my husband to take us somewhere for a walk. I had no idea when I got in the car where we were going to end up and I was still clueless until the last 5 minutes when he took a turn towards Tankerton.

And it was lovely, I hadn’t walked there in years a perfect morning exploring the beautiful coast of Kent. Although it was windy – great for the offshore wind farm though!

This is a lovely walk for all abilities, with plenty of places to stop and have some food or drink if you wish.

International Women’s Day

On #internationalwomensday I celebrate all the women in my life and to all the unsung women that achieve so very much but go unnoticed. I encourage everyone no matter their gender to work for their dreams, never believe that one job is superior to another and to remember it’s everyone working together that will make the most successful place to be. #women #equality #together #we’vegottgis #yougotthis #homelife #worklife

Work Life

Getting ready – quite often in my day job I come across people who block the system, who are negative, are scared of working together, of showing weakness and quite often think they know the answer to everything. And every day I get up do my day job to try and show others that you can make change, that you can work through problems, you don’t have to let others stop you from achieving and that YOU matter.

Watching the sunset

Getting outside, letting my brain relax and enjoying the beautiful countryside. I lent against a tree and watched the sunset. Simple but Perfect.

I cannot explain just how watching the sunset has given me so much energy. I have felt very drained and tired over the past few weeks but getting outside this evening proved a real winner. It’s amazing how something so simple can do so much for our body and soul.
